In December, 2013 Jaguar Land Rover announced its intention to build a plant in Brazil and now the company has confirmed that it has started work on its new fully owned factory in a town called Itatiaia, near Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The new facility will cost the company around $290 million and will have an education and a business centre in the same complex.
The plant will employ 400 people and will have an annual capacity of 24,000 units. Dr Ralf Speth, CEO, JLR said, "Our new facility in Brazil is an important strand of Jaguar Land Rover's long-term sustainability." The company hopes to source most of the required parts from Brazil itself and is looking forward to roll out its first vehicle from this new plant in 2016.
Currently JLR has an assembly plant in India and it also recently inaugurated a manufacturing facility in China last October.
Understandbly, a lot seems to brewing in this British manufacturer's stables and from what we can understand, expectations are also on the rise from the Jaguar XE and the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
