Maruti Suzuki will be coming out with an automatic version of their best selling car, Alto K10 by next month. Their bestseller car that Rs 4 lakh is one of the cheapest automatic cars in the world. Alto 1000cc is expected to be the automatic variant. R S Kalsi sales & marketing head said, “The company focused on the automatic category with the Celerio compact and plans to introduce it on other models in the coming time.”
The automatic variant will be using Auto-Gear Shift (AGS) technology that the company deployed on Celerio, around 40% are running with the AGS technology. Booking for the automatic version has already begun, about 83,500 units have been booked. Kalsi said the company expects a strong response to the automatic variant on Alto too. He said, “We saw a healthy demand in case of Celerio where the automatic variant now commands a huge waiting list. The demand is expected to remain strong even in the case of Alto.”
However the price has not been confirmed yet and is expected to be only revealed only during the launch. The introduction of this automatic car at a low price will be big pressure on Hyundai, Honda and Toyota, who do not have automatic variants under the same price. Kalsi said the new Alto will also be targeted at export markets like Latin America and Africa and shipments will start from next month itself.
