Delphi Automotive PLC announced its partnership with Ottomatika Inc to co-develop technologies that will accelerate automated driving. Ottomatika Inc is a company that provides advanced automated driving software, and was started by Carnegie Mellon University. Delphi plans to integrate its active safety technologies with Ottomatika’s automated driving software to create a technology platform enabling vehicles to make human-like decisions when driving in cities or highways. Delphi is supporting the collaboration by making an investment in Ottomatika, and the two companies will design short and long-term roadmaps to increase vehicle automation in the coming years.
The platform jointly created by both companies will be able to make complex decisions instantaneously, Delphi said. Decisions including stopping and proceeding at a four-way stop, timing a highway merge or calculating the safest manoeuvre around a bicyclist on a city street, can be made by the system. This platform is claimed to be flexible, with the ability to be expanded and upgraded as the software is updated, and be able to support vehicle-to-environment (V2X) communications.
Jeff Owens, Chief Technology Officer, Delphi, said the partnership with Ottomatika will represent a significant step forward in making automated driving a reality.
Ottomatika leverages ground-breaking expertise and long-term experience in vehicle automation, said Raj Rajkumar, Co-founder and CEO, Ottomatika Inc. He added that the two companies have the potential to solve the automated driving challenge, working together.
