U.S-based automaker Ford has officially stated that the company has begun the testing of the right-hand drive Mustang, adding more fuel to the speculations about the iconic muscle car coming to India - sometime in 2015. The addition of the right-hand drive version will allow Ford to export the ‘pony car’ to more than 25 countries in the world including, South Africa, Australia and the UK.
The upcoming Mustang model is the sixth-generation car, which was recently unveiled is slated to go on sale in the American market and other global markets by early 2015.
The construction of the very first prototype of the right-hand drive version has been successfully completed, says Ford’s engineers and the said prototype will now be put through a series of tests in the coming months. The iconic American muscle car, the Mustang has been in production for over 50 years and enjoys a cult following not only in the U.S but has a worldwide base of fans.
More than 9.2 million units of the Ford Mustang have been sold in the U.S and more than 1,61,000 units of the Mustangs have found owners outside of North America, since the car’s debut in 1964. In 2012 alone, the car raked in sales figure of more than 4,000 units in the international markets including, United Arab Emirates, Chile and the Philippines.
