This truly has been a much awaited launch for Mercedes-Benz India; the CLA-Class is finally launching in the country on January 22, 2015. The company promises the car will be its cheapest luxury saloon in the country.
The CLA-Class will come powered by the same engines that currently do duty on the GLA-Class SUV, i.e. a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel.
While the petrol motor churns out 181bhp and develops 300Nm torque, the diesel unit produces 136bhp and develops the same amount of torque. Both the engines will come mated to a 7G-DCT automatic transmission. The saloon will be based on Mercedes' MFA (Modular Front-wheel drive Architecture) platform, which also underpins the A-Class, B-Class, GLA-Class and CLA 45 AMG.
Mercedes-Benz will kick-off 2015 with a product that promises to rake in the moolah. Its only competition is the Audi A3, and I think the CLA wins hands down in terms of looks.
