Hyundai Genesis is a luxury sports car that is expected to make in-roads into Indian luxury car segment. Already available in international markets as a sedan and a coupé, this car is among the front runners of Hyundai stable. The car was displayed as a concept car in the New York International Auto Show of 2007. Later it became a part of assembly line and was produced continuously for North American and Korean Markets. Genesis with a distinction of being Hyundai’s first rear wheel drive sports car was launched to break into the markets of BMW 5 Series and Mercedes Benz E Class. The coupé version launched in later years is a masterpiece in true sense. Its purposeful aerodynamic designing is backed by path breaking technologies. It comes with a 2 litre turbocharged and another 3.8 litre V6 engine which provide it an exceptional power to weight ratio.
The sedan has already proved its worth winning the ‘North American Car of the Year’ and ‘Canadian Car of the Year’ awards in year 2009. In India, these cars are probably going to create a new segment altogether. If launched, the coupé could be priced in a range of Rs. 10 lacs to Rs.12 lacs, which is closer to its price in United States and that would be a very interesting proposition for Indian customers.
