Sunbeam Lotus fetches £50,000 at auction

Talbot Sunbeam Lotus
A “brand new” 1980 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus, which had lain barely used with 193 miles on the clock, sold for a premium-inclusive £50,625 at the two-day Silverstone Auctions sale during the Classic Motor Show at the NEC last weekend. Determined bidding from buyers in the room, online and over the phone helped it sail past its upper estimate of £28,000.
The prices of the rarest Porsche cars show no signs of slowing. An extremely rare 1994 911 964 Turbo 3.6 sold for £220,500, nearly £90,000 over its lower estimate, while a 1992 911 (964) Carrera RS Touring sold for £112,500, more than £30,000 over its lower estimate.
A 1994 Jaguar XJ220 once owned by the Royal Family of Brunei fetched what is believed to be a world record auction price for the model. With pre-sale interest from around the globe the car sold for a premium-inclusive £247,500 to a buyer from Singapore. With Mk1 Ford Escorts proving in demand as ever, a 1973 AVO Mk1 RS Mexico sold for £27,563, almost £10,000 over its lower estimate.
