Mahindra & Mahindra that launched the new-generation Scorpio in September is now planning to bring in an automatic variant of the car. Currently available in six variants, the new Scorpio comes mated to a new 5-speed manual transmission with 2.2-litre mHawk and 2.5-litre M2DICR (base variant - S2) diesel engines. With the aim to make the SUV easier to drive, the company will now introduce a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Expected to be placed at top of the line-up, the Scorpio automatic will be launched early next year.
The new Scorpio automatic will be around Rs. 1 lakh costlier than the existing top-end manual model. If the automatic gearbox is offered with the Scorpio RWD, expect it to be priced around Rs. 12.5 lakh (ex-showroom). As far as a 4WD automatic, the prices might go as high as Rs. 13.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
Being the top-of-the-line variant, the new Scorpio automatic will be loaded with all the features offered with the S10 model like driver + passenger airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), etc.
