Ford has promised to launch 8 new models in India between 2010 and 2015 and we feel the B-Max MPV will be one of the vehicles. When the new generation Fiesta came out, it turned out to be a hugely successful car for Ford, worldwide. This proved that Ford understands what the market really needs. Ford also understands the fact really well that small cars are perhaps the future of the automotive industry. Additionally, the B-Max, spy pictures and information doing the rounds all over the world wide web reveal more details about the company's Honda Jazz rival (well, it looks certainly that way!). Going by the pictures of the B-Max, it seems the styling and the interior is pretty much production ready, except may be for a few flashes of chrome and the fancy LED lighting anyway.

It is interesting to note than the B-Max is supposedly the replacement of the Fusion, which itself was based on the previous Fiesta. This upcoming model from Ford is designed to appeal to buyers who are, more than anything, looking to upgrade, offering some sharp styling and a very luxurious and comfortable interior space. Wondering how this 'pillar-less' bodyshell is acheived, which does away completely with the conventional B-pillars? Well, it is acheived by integrating the B-pillar into the front and sliding read doors! The engineers at Ford have achieved this by using some ultra-high-strength boron steel in the doors and special safety inter-locks between those panels, and the body structure itself.
If you look carefully, this exclusion of B-pillar gives the car an impressively large opening, which measures more than 1.5 metres in width. What this essentially does is it makes accessing the B-Max (ingress & egress) an absolute breeze, with the front and rear doors opening independently of each other. It is also believed that the glass will be shatter resistant and will be extra tough so that it doesn't break in, incase of an accident.
The major features of the B-Max which makes it a very interesting proposition, can briefly be summarised as follows:
• Sliding rear doors which gives us a 5-foot entrance
• Reinforced doors to compensate B-pillar-less design
• 3 cylinder, 1.0L EcoBoost engine and possibly the 1.2 litre petrol & 1.4 litre diesel engine from the Ford Figo
• Start-Stop button
